Sri K N Guruswamy
The illustrious founder of the Deccan Herald-Prajavani group of publications, Sri K N Guruswamy was a visionary endowed with a rare generosity of spirit.
Apart from founding Karnataka's very own newspapers - Deccan Herald and Prajavani at a time when free India was looking to voice the dreams and aspirations of a fledging nation, he also founded the Ashram School as education was a subject very dear to his heart. The Ashram School, which had modest beginnings, has now grown into a respected institution which offers quality education to children from economically challenged backgrounds and provides them with sound vocational training along with life skills.
A philanthropist and a visionary, Sri K N Guruswamy strongly believed in the saying, "A woman educated is a family educated" and stressed the importance of educating the girl child. The Deccan International School, started by his grandson Sri K N Tilak Kumar, bears testimony to Sri K N Guruswamy's commitment to the cause of education.
Sri K N Tilak Kumar
Mr Tilak Kumar, Joint Managing Director, Deccan Herald-Prajavani, takes great pride in the establishment of the Deccan International School.
As Chairman of the school's management committee, his goals are clearly defined: To make learning a joyous experience and to provide a stimulating environment that nurtures the overall development of the child. Bringing with him the rich experience of having managed the Ashram School, a legacy which he took from strength to strength, Mr Tilak Kumar also has a deep sense of responsibility and a keen understanding of what education must mean to children.
Having carefully chosen the faculty, the equipment and the various co-curricular activities, Mr Tilak Kumar's vision of a school is one which will aid the holistic development of a child.
Ms Sujatha Tilak Kumar
Believing that good education is the only real inheritance that we will leave our children, Ms Sujata Tilak Kumar has worked on making the Deccan International School special in every way.
Greening the vast campus, designing the rooms while keeping in mind the needs of children, interacting with parents, teachers and students on a regular basis, she is a hands-on person. Her vision is to see each child empowered with the strength of knowledge. Her aim is to get children to develop a love for reading which will make them life long learners.
Driven by a passion for education and motivated by the happy young faces around her, she believes that her work at Deccan International School has just begun.
