Deccan International School follows the ICSE syllabus.
Medium of instruction:
The medium of instruction is English and the scheme of studies is in accordance
with the scheme laid down by the Council for the Secondary and Higher Secondary
stages and approved by the council at the Primary School stage. Special importance
is given to English, both oral and written.
Syllabus:
The Council prescribes the syllabus of Classes IX & X (ICSE) and XI & XII
(ISC) directly. The Council recommends that the schools affiliated to the Council
follow the above syllabus.
Curriculum:
- For pre-primary, the curriculum includes a combination of Montessori and
kindergarten styles of teaching with activity-based play and work methodology.
- The first language is English.
- Second language – The students have an option to study either Hindi, Kannada or French from Grade I
- Third language is introduced in Grade IV (Hindi or Kannada).
- Yoga is an integral part of the curriculum.
- English language tests – YLE, KET and PET from University of Cambridge at different grade levels.
- ASSET Exam by Educational Initiatives for Grades III to X.
- Hobby Clubs for students VI and above offering a wide choice of Hobbies like Music (Vocal and Instrumental), Theatre, Art and Design, Craft, Literature, Science, Nature, Dance etc.
Promotion Criteria as per ICSE Guidelines:

Pre-Primary: Ordinarily promotion should be automatic. There will be no formal examinations
and the assessment is carried out by the teacher on the student's day-to-day work.

Classes I ,II ,III & IV : Ordinarily, promotion should be automatic. There will be
no formal examinations, but only continuous evaluation of student's work throughout
the year will be considered.

Class V: By this time, candidates will reach a satisfactory standard in
English, an Indian language and mathematics. The assessment of the students will
be done by evaluating their work throughout the year and also by conducting tests
and exams

Classes VI to VIII: Examinations will be conducted and the candidates are expected
to pass in all subjects. The evaluation of the students will be on the basis of
both the results of an examination and of the work done during the year. Thus equal
emphasis will be given to: a) Continuous Assessment b) Quiz, tests and Annual Examination

Classes IX & X: Council will hold the Indian School Certificate Examination and
award the ICSE pass certificates to the successful students. Internal assessment
and SUPW work will be evaluated as per council guidelines.
